Irish Legal Limits & Colour Coded Alerts
Pre-calibrated to Irish drink-driving limits, the Minilab IQ displays specific results in the same breath alcohol units used by Irish Garda testing devices. Alerts are set at 9 µg of alcohol per 100 ml of breath for learner and professional drivers, and 22 µg for experienced drivers.Clear colour-coded alerts remove ambiguity and allow users to instantly interpret their result. Measurement units can also be switched between breath alcohol, %BAC and other supported formats to suit personal or professional use.
Professional Fuel Cell Accuracy
European-Made Fuel Cell Sensor & Accuracy
The Minilab IQ uses a European-made fuel cell sensor, the same core technology used by Irish Gardaí and police forces worldwide. This alcohol-specific sensor reacts only to ethanol in breath. Accuracy: −0.00 / +0.015% BAC @ 0.05% BAC (EN16280). Engineered to avoid under-reading, the device applies a slight safety bias to provide an additional margin where it matters most.
The Fuel Cell Difference
Fuel cell sensors provide accurate, stable readings across a wide range of alcohol levels. Unlike semiconductor breathalysers, which can react to other breath compounds, fuel cell technology is designed specifically to measure alcohol.
Breath Flow Capture Control
Minilab IQ captures a deep-lung air sample for each test to help prevent underestimated results. Breath flow is monitored and the user is prompted to repeat the test if a sufficient sample is not detected.

The Minilab IQ features a user-replaceable Fuel Cell sensor, allowing the device to maintain professional-grade accuracy without needing to be returned for servicing. When the sensor reaches the end of its service life, it can be replaced by the user in seconds.
Replacement sensors cost just €29.99. After approximately 600 tests, the device will display a “Sensor Change / Calibration” reminder, indicating it may be time to replace the sensor.For users who prefer traditional servicing, Minilab Healthcare also provides a professional 48-hour calibration service from our lab in Ireland.
